Fumiyo Yoshikawa was born in Kyoto, Japan. She currently lives in Albany, California.
Since 1983, she has studied and practiced “nihonga”, a painting style using traditional Japanese materials and methods and has taken part in many art exhibitions throughout Japan at major art museums and galleries such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum, the Kyoto Museum, Takashimaya Fine Art Gallery, etc. Also she has had solo exhibits in Guatemala and the United States.
She also has created designs and illustrations for several art companies, individuals, and publishers using her technique of painting, brush painting, calligraphy, and drawing. Lately she designed the unified logo for all three elementary schools of Albany, California.
In addition, she has taught art both in Japan and abroad to people of all ages, from children to seniors. She has introduced Japanese art and culture to people from diverse backgrounds through her teaching and demonstrations at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum, Mesa Colorado Mesa University and Western Colorado Center for the Arts, to name just a few.
