Fumiyo Yoshikawa is from Kyoto, Japan. Her art represents her memoirs and feelings inspired by meeting with people who live in diverse environments. She traveled around both inside and outside Japan to see interesting people and to study their cultures. Thus, she reached to the United States in 2003.

Her main media is “nihonga”, which is a particular painting style using traditional Japanese materials and method. In addition to bamboo brushes and sumi-ink, she uses dry pigments made of natural things such as minerals, clays, etc. She studied the method in Kyoto University of Education. After the graduation, Yoshikawa constantly exhibited at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum or the other art museums and major galleries in Tokyo, Kyoto and other cities.

In addition, she has been teaching art including brush paintings and other “nihonga” techniques at several art institutions and colleges in Japan and other countries. Since she moved to San Francisco in 2004, she has been teaching Japanese art and culture to the people in the US. Since 2006, she has been living in Grand Junction, Colorado.
